Spring in full swing: Chesapeake Cottage residents bloom outdoors

Posted

As the Maryland breeze turns warm, the residents of Chesapeake Cottage in Show Hill are doing more than just watching the season change through their windows. They are right in the thick of it.

If you’ve scrolled through the Chesapeake Cottage Facebook page lately, you’ve likely seen a flurry of color and activity. From the focused determination of a gardener tending to new sprouts to the joyful chaos of a springtime tradition, the community has made one thing clear: life is meant to be lived in the sunshine.

A hunt for joy

The recent Easter Egg Hunt served as a perfect catalyst for movement. Residents took to the lawn, navigating the pathways with a youthful competitive spirit. Whether they were spotting bright plastic eggs tucked into the shrubs or cheering on their neighbors, the event was a masterclass in “active living.”

It wasn’t just about the candy; it was about the stretching, the walking and the shared laughter that comes with a community-wide celebration.

Green thumbs and golden hours

Beyond the holiday festivities, the gardening club has officially reclaimed its territory. Research consistently shows that “dirt therapy” improves dexterity and boosts mood, and their residents are the living proof. On any given afternoon, you’ll find residents getting their hands in the soil — planting seasonal flowers and herbs that will soon decorate our patio dining area.

Why we move

“Our goal is to ensure that ‘assisted living’ focuses heavily on the living part,” said the Chesapeake Cottage activities team. “Getting outside for fresh air and Vitamin D isn’t just a luxury; it’s a vital part of our wellness philosophy.”

By prioritizing outdoor engagement, Chesapeake Cottage continues to prove that age is just a number when there is a garden to be tended and a community to share it with. Keep an eye on our social media for the next adventure — the spring season is only just beginning.
